It’s vacation already! Well, most are probably happy and are already dreaming of beaches, resorts and lots of summer escapades. But I just don’t see what fun these things can bring. I’m not much into physical activities and I don’t love the outdoors as much the others do. That probably keeps me innocent about the fun outings bring to many people. I prefer to stay inside the house and read novels or other forms of literary. I also try to read textbooks and other educational magazines, partly because I want to have advance knowledge for the next semester or maybe just learn new things, and partly because I simply can’t read anything else. But that rarely happens during vacations. I’m mostly stuck with literary. But recently, I’ve run out of books to read I and I ended up calling my friends to beg them to spare me a book for the vacation. I am suddenly drawn in a desperate bookhunt for any book that may entertain me for the boring 2 months of waiting. Fortunately, a friend of mine, Elver, lent me a book that I can keep till the end of summer vacation. The book was entitled Epic. I asked my friend to describe to me and I didn’t like the description much. He said that it is about an online game that became the basis of the economy in New Earth. New earth is the new planet where in remaining citizens of earth moved because the old earth was destroyed by wars. Because the people of this new planet became afraid of the things that violence brings, they decided to make a law that will prohibit even the smallest act of violence. Conflicts were resolved by the use of a game they call Epic. Epic is very much like Ragnarok. But in New Earth every Copper bits you earn will be the money you’ll use for real life. That’s how Epic became the basis of economy. Anyone who commits violence outside the game, even children, shall be exiled and brought to an island for violent people. The Central Allocations a.k.a. C.A. is the known government of New Earth. Composed of it’s nine members, The C.A. makes they’re decisions privately under meetings and anyone who questions them may issue a challenge in Epic where they must win against the rich characters of the C.A. committee. But it is almost impossible to defeat them because they have the collection of the finest weapons ever found in the game. But not until a group of children from Osterfjord killed a dragon and took claim of its hoard. They were able to obtain a fortune larger than that of the C.A. The dragonslayers were then drawn into a cutthroat, power-hungry world. And by there, their real adventure began. For me, the story was very fictional and it didn’t interest me. But I’ve learned not to judge a book by its cover or by how others describe it, so I gave it a try. Anyway, I didn’t have any choice; it’s the only book available. But when I started reading it, I realized it wasn’t that bad. In fact, it wasn’t bad at all. The story was thrilling, though fictional, but it’s good. And you know what? I’ve just had a craving for its sequel, Saga. Seems like another Bookhunt Adventure, huh?

A clear sky full of stars…

A wonderful night…

I looked up…there goes Orion, preparing to fire his arrow.

I gazed more…I caught a glimpse of Cassiopeia, frozen still in her falling chair.

I focused to see more…there was the Rosary, with its beads held closely together.

Again, I glanced…There was the small dipper, with Polaris in it’s tail.

Once more I looked…The moon was there, still holding the beauty of the night.

Everytime I see the sky like this, I feel relaxed and thoughts start to enter my mind.  I wonder about so many things in my life.  I was happy.  But ever since clouds invaded the cloudless sky, things changed.  My life seem to reflect the sky’s emotions…and there was I,  staring up to the clouds with a little light coming from the moon behind them.  It was sad…

Now…I haven’t stared at it yet…maybe tomorrow would be better if I see the night sky’s sweet smile again…The sky where I fell in love with…

“Matagal na rin pala…sana makita ko na ulit kung gaano siya kaganda!”

“Do fireflies fly here by night?”I asked my friend, Ken.

“They usually fly around that tree in swarms at night” he answered.

I tried to imagine the tree lighting up like a Christmas tree at night with a natural glow from the fireflies.  It seemed very beautiful.

The simple tree turns into an elegant display of nature each time night falls, I thought.

“But the fire flies recently ceased to come.  I don’t know what happened, they probably moved or were sprayed with insecticides” Ken cut in through my thoughts.

I felt a surge of disappointment rush over my body.  I would’ve been willing to wait until it gets dark just to witness it.

I studied it for a while; I was ahead of my friends so I can use the time to observe it while I wait for them to keep up with me.  The tree seems strong and probably has lived for a long time now.

“Lightning usually strikes here and most trees are being struck” Ken said.

“This tree is lucky not to be one of them huh?” Edlyn said

I agreed.  The tree is strong and lucky as well.

I glanced at the tree once more.  I saw that there were a few flowers starting to bloom at one side.  When I saw the flowers, I was assured that it was a mango tree.  I pictured it with flowers covering its leafy top.  The fireflies might be gone but the tree still possesses beauty because of its flower, though it still depends on the season.  And it also serves its purpose by bearing its fruits.

My friends are ahead of me now and I am getting left behind.  Edlyn called and told me to hurry up.  I think they are starting to feel weird about me giving to much interest to the tree.  Well, I usually find myself interested on things that people finds to be common everytime I engage with long walks.  I try to find unusual thoughts about them.

“I’m comming” I called back to them.

Once more I looked at the old tree.  It gives me an overwhelming feeling in an odd way.  I guess I am just amazed by how God sustains and protects his creations.

“Goodbye old tree” I whispered.  “I wish the fireflies come back.”

I myself have my own beliefs, but I try to be very much open minded with what others say. I try to understand what they are saying and then I try to pinpoint loopholes with their belief, they usually do the same. But then again, I always cling to my belief not letting any holes uncovered.

I am not an atheist and I believe in the existence of a God. I am also not a free thinker with no sure religion. Neither am I a pastor which I have no plans of becoming. I am simply someone who wants to prove to everyone that there is only one true faith, and I believe that’s mine.

Through my years of observation, I want to emphasize one thing that I have proven; that the Catholic Church bears a false cross. I believe their belief won’t lead in any place near salvation. I’ve seen many loopholes in their faith. First, and the most noticeable of all, they create graven images (Romans 1:23-25). They kneel down in front of them and treat them as gods. I heard one of them, an instructor of ours in the subject religion, saying that they do not worship such images but use them as a form of medium. Where in the bible can you find that? Would God require you to have mediums when you can pray directly to Him? And why on earth would they have knelt in front of the images of Mary, Peter, Joseph, Paul, John, etc? Left alone, having fiestas for them and not having any feast for God. And where can you find in the bible that they’ve already reached heaven. And as for their rosary, isn’t it said in the bible that we should not do repeated prayers (Mathew 6:7)? And I’ve never heard them expelling anyone from their church while in fact the bible says that we should excommunicate any deliberate transgressors, which is present in abundant numbers in their congregation. They also have sacraments that do not exist in the bible. The whole thing is ridiculous.

Well sorry if anyone is offended. I am not saying this to make anyone angry. I wouldn’t risk many people being angry with me if not for a good cause. But I cannot do anything about that, the truth really hurts. And pain usually makes people angry. But would anyone stand to fight such accusations, if they can be called accusations at all? I dare everyone. Prove me wrong and my loyalty shall be yours.

The movie A Walk to Remember really amazed me. It still inspires me even until now. If I knew that a movie like it existed then, I would’ve watched it a thousand times over by now. It overwhelmed me. But, one night, while I was sitting in a corner, thinking about the things that have passed and the things that are yet to come (My spiritual side usually takes over at these kind of moments, you know, I feel like thinking about God and the things that he does, but I usually start to think about other things first before I come to that state), I suddenly though about where could the movie have originated? Who could’ve been the ingenious author that has written the story of that movie? Then one day, while I was talking to a friend, we came across the name of Nicholas Sparks and the books that he has written. I was fascinated by the way she talked about the book A Walk to Remember. And that’s when this blog started.

I tried to get my hands on that book, but no matter how good a book hunter I thought I was, I never found it. I’ve been through a lot of bookstores; I guess I’ve already covered every bookstore in the vicinity, but unfortunately, I failed. I started to have doubts that the book might never have reached the Philippines. I haven’t got that time to confirm my doubts but as far as I’m concerned, I need to find it – wherever it is.

But since I cannot leave the country – for goodness sake, I’m not rich and I’m 16 – it’s time for planB. If can’t have the actual book, then a copy will do. Anyway I’m not a book hunter to hunt book covers and book pages; I hunt those multiple-paged treasure chests for the story within those pages. In short, I’ll settle for a soft copy.

And there I went to the E-Lib; the part of our library where you can use computers instead of books, and it has access to the internet. My search led me to the site www.wattpad.com, a site where you can find a copy of a lot of books. And fortunately, there it was! All I have to do is copy and paste. I haven’t got the money to print it so I settled with having an “onscreen” reading. I was afraid to lose my good eyesight because of that but I really wanted to read it, so I took the risk. And it was worth it! Well, It has a lot of difference with the movie, maybe that’s why the movie was said to be “based on the book” and not “from the book”, believe me; a lot of changes were done. They were like two different stories that had the same main characters and just happened to fall on the same ending. The rest of each is entirely unique. But all in all, I love them. You know, my next book hunt may just be another one of Nicholas Sparks’.

Unang una, maraming scene na kabobohan. Halimbawa, may napanood ako nun sa GMA. Captain barbel ata yun. Ewan ko kung ano yun. Nakakalipad naman si CB, ang kalaban nya nakasakay sa helicopter, wala man lang sya magawa dun? hindi man lang nya sinundan. Naghintay pa sya sa baba, nakiusap na wag ilalaglag yung tao samantalang pag nilaglag naman yun e pwede syang lumipad at saluhin yun at saka nya pasabugin ang mukha nung kontrabida. E nakakabobo. Para saan ang super powers niya?  hahaha.

Teka, teka, eto seryoso na.

Sa mga fantaserye kase, maraming bata ang nakakapanood nun, tama ba? Nabubuhay tuloy sila sa mundo na fantasy din. Akala nila totoo yung mga napapanood nila. Akala nila pwede silang maging si darna. Ayun, lumunok din ng bato. Anak ng bato naman o!

Meron pa, nung kasagsagan ng mulawin, akala nila pwede silang maging taong ibon, ayun, pinagbubunot ang balahibo ng mga manok. Hahahaha.

Marami din ako nakitang mga batang bading nun kumakanta, “kapangyarihan, ng araw, taglay, ay liwanag.. SUPER TWINS!”. Ayun akala nila super hero na sila. Kumpleto props, pati singsing meron tapos nangaaway ng kalaro nila. Hahahah.

Ang punto ko lang naman e, tutal may mga batang nanonood, bakit kaya imbes na puro fantaserye ang pinagagagawa sa telebisyon e gumawa ng palabas na makatotohanan, yung totoong tao, totoong mga karakter, yung makakarelate ka. Yung pwedeng mangyari at gawin ng isang tao. Yung pwedeng gayahin ng mga bata na mabuti, na totoo. Na imbes na lumunok sila ng bato e kabutihang asal ang mapupulot nila. Ganon.
